Sara.Meana
I am from a small town in Texas. I moved to Arizona after graduating from the University of North Texas in 2008 with a BA in Mathematics. I joined Teach for America and was placed at Tolleson Union High School. At Tolleson, I fell in love with teaching math…and with a handsome teacher named Andrew Meana. Following my heart, I earned a MEd in Secondary Education from ASU and Andy and I got married…and then co-taught math together…and stayed married! I transitioned to teaching upper levels and AP and then got an MS in Mathematics from GCU. I began teaching classes in the evenings at EMCC while teaching high school during the day. Andy and I thought we weren’t quite busy enough, so we had a kid…and then we had another. Harlan is 5 and Zoey is almost 3, and they look EXACTLY like their father. Last year, I was able to be on campus at EMCC full time as Becky Baranowski’s OYO, and fell in love with teaching again. Not only could I teach math, but also mentor undergraduate research, partner with outstanding embedded tutors, learn and grow with incredible educators, collaborate with skilled staff members, and have my kids come hold a snake or tarantula while those things were happening!!
Please introduce yourself when you see me around campus!! I’ll probably be wearing a math dress or a whiteboard marker bandolier.
