Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Cantú is Communication Residential Faculty at Estrella Mountain Community College.
Dr. Cantú received her Ph.D. in communication from ASU's Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, and her M.A. in communication and B.A. in journalism and political science from Texas A&M University. Growing up on the U.S.-Mexico border has encouraged Dr. Cantú to explore the richness, complexities, and diversity of the borderlands to serve communities and develop community-embedded programming.
During the Fall 2021-Spring 2022 academic year, Dr. Cantú is serving as the faculty tri-chair for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team; the Student Assessment Committee Co-Coordinator; and conducting Title V-grant funded research on the student experience at Estrella Mountain Community College.
Her research interests align with the first-generation college experience, educational access and equity of marginalized students in higher education, and advocates for underrepresented students to promote student persistence and attainment.
Dr. Cantú enjoys experiencing and exploring the world through travel, food, and connecting with people along her journeys.
