Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Cantú is Communication Residential Faculty at Estrella Mountain Community College.
Dr. Cantú received her Ph.D. in communication from ASU's Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, and her M.A. in communication and B.A. in journalism and political science from Texas A&M University. Growing up on the U.S.-Mexico border has encouraged Dr. Cantú to explore the richness, complexities, and diversity of the borderlands to serve communities and develop community-embedded programming.
Her research interests align with the first-generation college experience, educational access and equity of marginalized students in higher education, and advocates for underrepresented students to promote student persistence and attainment. She serves in leadership roles within organizations, such as the Isac Amaya Foundation focused on (im)migrant rights and the creation of supportive ally networks for underserved students in higher education.
Dr. Cantú enjoys experiencing and exploring the world through travel, food, and connecting with people along her journeys.
