Liz.Cantu
Dr. Elizabeth (Liz) Cantú is Communication Residential Faculty at Estrella Mountain Community College.
Dr. Cantú received her Ph.D. in communication from ASU's Hugh Downs School of Human Communication, and her M.A. in communication and B.A. in journalism and political science from Texas A&M University. Growing up on the U.S.-Mexico border has encouraged Dr. Cantú to explore the richness, complexities, and diversity of the borderlands to serve communities and develop community-embedded programming.
During the Fall 2022-Spring 2023 academic year, Dr. Cantú is serving as the faculty tri-chair for the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Team; the Culturally Relevant Training Co-Facilitator; and working on an Maricope Center for Learning and Innovation (MCLI) Horizon grant funded project at Estrella Mountain Community College.
Her research interests align with the first-generation college experience, educational access and equity of marginalized students in higher education, and advocates for underrepresented students to promote student persistence and attainment.
Dr. Cantú enjoys experiencing and exploring the world through travel, food, and connecting with people along her journeys.
