Janaea Lyn McAlee is Residential Dance Faculty at EMCC. Her artistic and educational focus is on facilitating collaborative projects and she brings this philosophy to the EMCC dance program and the student company, DancEstrella. Prior to relocating to Phoenix, Janaea was Assistant Professor of Dance and Performing Arts Program Coordinator for Cecil College in Maryland from 2006-2012. While there she designed and directed an interdisciplinary performing arts degree program and was actively involved in the opening of a new arts center. Janaea was Founding/Artistic Director of Dance Matrix and Convergence - Dancers & Musicians and her work has been presented nationally and internationally in France, Scotland, Poland, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC. A third generation Isadora Duncan dancer and historian, Janaea actively presents Duncan workshops throughout Arizona.She has presented at both the 2015 and 2013 Isadora Duncan International Symposiums and and currently serves on the Isadora Duncan Archive Committee. In her spare time Janaea also studies and performs Flamenco as a professional hobby.
Conference presentations include Creating Across Disciplines: An Integrative Approach To Performing Art Education at The League for Innovation in Community Colleges and Calling as Career: The Intersection of Life and Learning in the Performing Arts at the Association for the Advancement of Community College Teaching (AFACCT). In 2012, Janaea (a.k.a. Janaea Rose Lyn) published “Dance This Notebook!” with artwork by Laura Higgins Palmer. A contributing writer for Choreoclinic (www.choreclinic.com), she has also written an e-book/text, Designing Your Life in the Performing Arts! A Resource for Dancers, Actors and Musicians and the article Choreographer/Composer Collaborations was published in “Choreography and Dance, An International Journal.”
