Hi, my name is Juanita Parra, I am a One-Stop Student Specialist, Cohort Advisor assigned to Culinary, Business, and Occupational programs. In my years at EMCC, I have come to understand Student Success through the eyes and stories of many students. It is through their educational endeavors that I find purpose and commitment to advance student learning. As a caring advisor, I am dedicated to bridge our communication to learn more about your personal goals. Given my educational experience and life background, I understand every student is unique and believe that providing a supportive and personalized service is essential when assisting students in achieving their educational goals.

Currently, I have fifteen plus years as a Student Specialist and former experience as a University Recruitment, Retention, and Outreach  Specialist, and Transfer Center University Advisor.  I hold a Master's in Educational Administration and Supervision with a focus in Higher Education, a Bachelor's of Arts in Family Studies and Human Development, with a minor in Spanish. I received an Associate in Arts with honors at Glendale Community College and completed a certificate in Bilingual Education. I have Student Services Institute certificates in foundations of student services and student affairs management, and MCCCD Supervisor Development program.  I have prior experience as a social services provider, Family Advocate and mental health Case Manager with extensive training in case management, social services, mental health, child development, child crisis and intervention, and family advocacy and parenting.  I have eight years as a paraprofessional serving K-8, Bilingual, Bicultural elementary school children in Bilingual education.  I am second to the youngest of ten children of a migrant family, and first generation graduate.
